Those things run rough, and I am more impressed that there was a 3.2 litre 4pot from a V8 in the past.

I'm more impressed that the tempest of that year was such a wild machine. Flexible driveshaft and a transxle in a rather boxy looking compact.

Won't 389 parts bolt on this?

I think a cylinder head and pistons will.
Not sure if rods will work.

Same "platform" as a Corvair too.
GM was better at whacking cylinders from 8s for "economy" than most.

I love Pontiac's oddball engines like that and the OHC 6.

Pontiac was trying new things in GM's strict and conservative corporate culture, which is admirable to say the least.
It's funny because everything that was engineered by a GM division on its own is fantastic, but everything engineered at Corporate sucks. I like to imagine that brilliant engineers were getting shafted by the company at Corporate.
Everything I like about my car was designed by Oldsmobile alone, everything I don't is Corporate, namely the stupid front suspension *rolls eyes*
